To blog, or not to blog?

I realised lately that I took an unofficial 'August break' from my blog.  Lately I've started to wonder what place traditional blogs have in the ever-changing digital world. With the popularity of 'micro' blogging sites (such as Instagram) which are easy to flick through in a moment, is the popularity of blogs starting to wane?

I've really enjoyed blogging over the past seven years. Through this blog I've made new friends, been on adventures and documented moments I may otherwise have forgotten about. And I still enjoy visiting my favourite blogs. Yet, I'm starting to wonder whether it's worth continuing. Like many people, I work on a computer daily and when I get home from work I enjoy escaping the screen. Most blogging advice tends to re-emphasize the importance of 'blogging regularly' but this often isn't possible, and days, weeks and months can go by without the inspiration hitting me to blog. So for now, I'm getting out my sketchbook and will curl up in front of the Bake Off and wait to see if inspiration strikes...

  1. I definitely recognise this feeling. I'm trying to put less pressure on myself to blog every few days or even every week. I do still see the value in blogging - I love the community it's introduced me to, the friends I've made and connections maintained through comment threads, and I enjoy having something to look back on when I've done something special, like a holiday or weekend away - but am also having to be realistic about what I can achieve.

    1. Yep it's mainly about having the time, as posts (especially picture-heavy ones) can take a while to do. I think with winter on its way I'll feel more inclined to delve back into the blog and craft world. I'm keen to post more 'how to'/creative style blogs as well. Hope you enjoy the poster workshop at the weekend, hope to see the results :-)

  2. Oh, I had almost a year and a half when I barely blogged before I found out I was pregnant - when I came back to it, my stats were (instantly) better than ever so I don't believe you HAVE to blog regularly for your blog to be a success (and I don't believe success is the only reason to blog). Do it when you enjoy it; let it slide when you don't. Your blogging friends will still be here when/if you get back.
