Film Friday: Drive

I finally got round to watching Drive, this week. I enjoyed the film, (despite having to close my eyes during certain violent moments!) although I couldn't quite warm to either of the main characters (played by Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan). Perhaps you weren't really meant to though?

  1. I haven't seen Drive, but I felt exactly the same about the characters in Blue Valentine. Still there's something to be said about a film when you really enjoy it despite not identifying on any part with the characters. Plus, I could look at Ryan Gosling all day.

  2. I had to close my eyes (and ears) during the second half of the film, ugh.

  3. I watched Drive this week too, and thought it was spectacular. The mixture of silence/music, tension/release, stillness/action. I agree about not warming to the main characters, but I thought that made it even better. It was as if there was a barrier and you were left as a passive observer, as if you were a passenger along for the journey, rather than getting in deep with the plot.

As you can tell, I really liked it!

  5. I loved every minute of this movie.....Ryan, violence, and all! It is a good psychological thriller that makes you think differently about certain norms we readily accept. The violence was necessary and, like the car stunts, well done. I would recommend this to all my friends not watching movies with their hands covering their faces!
