Best Coming of Age Films

The trailer for Rob Reiner's new film, Flipped looks good - found via the lovely Brodie - the article also lists a top 5 Coming of Age films, all of which I love - apart from the Wackness which I haven't seen. Anyone else seen it or have recommendations along a similar vein?

  3. Oooh, great post!
Stand By Me! Also: for me, it'd have to include Now and Then if only because it was the first film I saw at the cinema with friends and without parents, when I was 12 or so. Such an exciting day, ha! Continuing in the 'embarrassing admissions', line, I also quite enjoyed the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Oh - Mean Girls!! I'm not even embarrassed to admit that one!

Some classics: Gregory's Girl, Heathers, Empire Records, Ferris Bueller.

And some newer ones: My Summer of Love (great British film), Stealing Beauty (beautiful Tuscan scenery and amazing cast - Jeremy Irons, Joseph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz as well as Liv Tyler). This is England is also really good.

Thanks for the link - must watch Almost Famous, and Ghost World was such an awesome film and I'd totally forgotten about it! I've never even heard of the Wackness, will check that one out too. An Education is really good, hope you enjoy.

  5. YOU, miss, ARE SO SWEET! jane and i seem to be kindred spirits: now and then is a personal favourite! i drafted this story and included an education, stand by me, my girl etc etc etc but my editor was like "TOO MANY, BRODIE! IT'S A TOP FIVE" so i can to compromise/sacrifice some personal favourites. xo
