Persepolis

I've nearly finished reading the comic book, Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi and I'm really enjoying it. The book is a graphic novel detailing the author's childhood in Iran during the war with Iraq in the early 80's. It has some very sad moments but is also very amusing and I can't wait to see the film which is out at cinemas today in the UK.

Swap Shop

I think I'll go to this in a couple of weeks' time. Swap shop is taking place in Muse Bar (round the corner from me!) in Nottingham. It's a great idea, you take along some unwanted clothes and perhaps pick up some nice new ones in return! Tickets are £4 with all the proceeds going to Oxfam, with a free cake thrown in to boot!

Make: a Mixtape!

If any of you miss getting mix tapes from people, there is an online mixtape maker (shown to me by Christina!) that lets you pick tracks and assemble them on an old skool tape, by adding a Style to it.. like the one below! Have a look here and create your own!

Design Sponge: Nottingham Style Guide

I've written a guide to the best places to visit in Nottingham, published today on design*sponge, click here to read more!

It was fun to write about some of my favourite places to eat, drink and shop! Hopefully it will attract some new visitors to the city too.

Inspiration: Silja Goetz

After flicking through the latest issue of Computer Arts, I just had to find out more about illustrator Silja Goetz. Silja has written a great tutorial in the magazine on how to make illustrations using collage and found objects, combined with hand drawn sketches which are then digitally altered to create wonderful pieces of art work.

Silja was born in Regenburg, Germany in 1974 and after studying communication design in N├╝rnberg, worked for Allegra Magazine for 2 years. She has since moved to Spain and has had work published in, amongst others, the New Yorker, UK Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire.

Her work has really inspired me to collect some bits and bobs such as string, feathers and patterned paper and get my scanner up and running again!
